Testing & Surveillance

Spirometry, Pulmonary Testing & Respirator Clearance

NIOSH-standard spirometry and pulmonary function testing, OSHA respirator medical clearance and fit testing, with an online questionnaire for registered employers.

  • NIOSH-standard spirometry and PFT with physician interpretation
  • OSHA 1910.134 respirator medical evaluation and clearance
  • Quantitative and qualitative fit testing

Spirometry and pulmonary function testing

Spirometry is easy to perform badly. Our technicians are trained to NIOSH standards and every tracing is interpreted by an occupational medicine physician who compares it against prior years, not just predicted values.

  • Baseline and periodic spirometry
  • Full pulmonary function testing when indicated
  • Longitudinal decline analysis
  • Referral and work-restriction guidance when results warrant

Respirator medical clearance

OSHA 1910.134 requires medical evaluation before an employee wears a respirator. Registered employers can send workers through our online respirator questionnaire; a physician reviews each one and issues clearance or requests follow-up testing.

  • Online respirator questionnaire (employer registration required)
  • Physician review and written clearance letter
  • Follow-up spirometry or exam when indicated
  • Annual re-evaluation tracking

Fit testing

Quantitative and qualitative fit testing for half-mask, full-face and tight-fitting powered respirators, documented for your program file.

What to bring

  • Avoid smoking for at least one hour before testing
  • Wear loose clothing and avoid a heavy meal beforehand
  • Bring the name and dose of any inhaled medications
